CONVERSATION 14 – March 14, 2025: A Conversation on Sexuality, Intimacy, and Mental Health with Maria Palumbo

a conversation on sexuality
intimacy
and mental health during midlife and beyond in a welcoming and supportive space.

At our 14th Midlife Café gathering, we had the joy and honor of welcoming Maria Palumbo—a gifted therapist, educator, and facilitator—who led us in a deeply moving conversation about sexuality, intimacy, and mental health.

It was one of those mornings that felt particularly intimate. The space was cozy and welcoming, and the energy in the room made it clear: we were ready to talk honestly about topics that often remain unspoken.

Maria brought such warmth, wisdom, and humor to the circle. She has a remarkable gift for making complex or uncomfortable topics feel approachable. Under her guidance, we explored not only sexual intimacy, but also the many forms intimacy can take in our lives—emotional closeness, friendship, touch, presence, even eye contact.

One idea that really stayed with me was how looking into someone’s eyes—just holding their gaze—is a powerful form of intimacy. It reminded me how essential these moments of connection are, especially in midlife when many of us are redefining relationships with ourselves and others.

Maria, thank you for creating a space where we could feel safe to explore, question, share, and reflect. Your compassionate, grounded approach was a gift to all of us, and your energy continues to ripple through our conversations.

Looking Ahead: Honoring What’s Next

As many of you know, the future of Be Well Collective is currently uncertain. Our agreement with the space may end on April 31, so I’ve scheduled three sessions in April to make the most of this special place while we have it.

I’d also love to invite anyone who’s interested to arrive one hour early (10 AM) at our next gathering to join an informal conversation about how we can keep Midlife Café alive and growing. This space is powerful—but I know I can’t carry it alone. My hope is to see this continue as a collaborative community, where women support women in the most meaningful ways.

If you feel called to contribute, organize, or simply share your ideas—I would be so grateful.

Thank you for being on this journey with me. Your presence matters. Your voice matters. And the connection we build together makes this all so worthwhile.

With love and gratitude,
Daniela
