CONVERSATION 19 – May 23, 2025: Another Day at Longwood Gardens: Nature, Connection, and Midlife Wisdom

Thanks to another generous donation from one of our lovely members, Midlife Café had the joy of gathering once again at the stunning Longwood Gardens. There’s something magical about being surrounded by open sky, water, and greenery—it invites ease, conversation, and a deeper kind of connection.
As we wandered through the paths and blooms, our conversation naturally turned toward the things that sustain us in midlife. We exchanged recommendations—from trusted doctors to practices that have helped us feel grounded and resilient.
Common threads emerged as we talked:
☀️ light
💧 water
🌳 nature
🚶 long walks
🏃 energizing runs
🧘♀️ the grounding of yoga
📚 the joy of learning
Personally, I loved all of them—especially the combination of learning and running, with yoga always close to my heart. 💛
As often happens in our gatherings, more wisdom surfaced as we continued talking. One of the highlights was a podcast recommendation that sparked excitement:
Esther Perel, a world-renowned couples therapist, offers a rare and intimate look into real therapy sessions. Her episodes explore the complexity of couples’ and professional relationships, revealing the rawness, conflict, and tenderness of human connection. It quickly became a favorite topic of discussion among us.
I didn’t mention this during the gardens walk, but I’m currently reading Mind Your Body by Nicole Sachs.
I previously read her book The Meaning of Truth and found her JournalSpeak technique incredibly powerful. Now, returning to her earlier work with fresh eyes, I’m discovering new layers of insight and reflection—perfect for this stage of life.
Our next gathering will be held online, and I’m so excited for this one. It’s an expert session with Carmen Mathaudhu:
🗓️ Friday, June 6 at 11 AM ET
Carmen brings a deep understanding of nutrition, body intelligence, and the biological shifts that occur during midlife. This session is designed to help women feel stronger, more energized, and more connected to the wisdom of their own bodies.
